Researchers at IIT Jodhpur have developed an artificial‑intelligence system to preserve and decode six ancient Indian manuscripts.
IIT Jodhpur scientists are employing artificial‑intelligence tools to safeguard a collection of India’s ancient manuscripts and convert them into legible text. The project focuses on six historically significant scripts that have deteriorated over centuries, rendering them difficult to read with the naked eye.
The team has designed a deep‑learning model that enhances faded ink, reconstructs missing characters, and translates the recovered content into modern scripts. By training the algorithm on a curated dataset of known characters, the system can infer and restore portions of text that are otherwise lost.
Successful digitisation of these six manuscripts will not only protect cultural heritage but also make the material accessible to scholars worldwide. Researchers plan to extend the technique to larger archives, aiming for a scalable solution for manuscript preservation across India.
