The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) have signed an agreement to test an alternative pest‑control solution in FCI’s grain storage facilities.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) have entered into a collaborative agreement to evaluate an alternative pest‑control approach for grain storage. The partnership will see ICAR scientists working alongside FCI officials to conduct field trials in selected FCI warehouses across the country.
The pilot aims to assess the effectiveness of the new method in protecting stored grains from insect damage while potentially reducing reliance on conventional chemical pesticides. Results from the trial will inform future pest‑management strategies for the nation’s strategic food reserves.
Both agencies have indicated that the findings could help improve grain quality, extend storage life, and enhance safety for consumers. The trial is expected to run for several months, after which a comprehensive report will be prepared for policymakers.
