Mohali police have filed a case after a husband, who travelled to Shimla with his wife post‑wedding, allegedly stole jewelry and escaped to Canada.
The newlywed couple visited the hill station of Shimla shortly after their wedding ceremony. During the trip, the husband is alleged to have taken several pieces of jewelry belonging to his wife without her consent.
According to the complaint lodged by the wife, the husband left Shimla, crossed the border and reached Canada, where he is believed to be residing. The stolen items have not been recovered so far.
Mohali police registered a criminal case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, initiating an investigation to trace the suspect and recover the jewelry. Authorities are also coordinating with foreign agencies to locate the fugitive.
The case highlights concerns over marital disputes escalating into cross‑border theft and underscores the need for prompt legal action in such matters.
