The Karnataka horticulture department has unveiled a special 50% subsidy to help beekeepers in the state's hilly and coastal regions purchase beehives.

The Karnataka horticulture department has announced a special subsidy covering 50 percent of the cost of beehives for beekeepers operating in the state's hill and coastal zones. The measure aims to boost honey production and support livelihoods of beekeepers in these geographically distinct areas.

Under the scheme, eligible beekeepers can claim the subsidy when purchasing new beehives, reducing their outlay by half. The department said the assistance will be disbursed through existing agricultural subsidy channels, ensuring swift implementation.

Officials highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the apiculture sector, which contributes to pollination, biodiversity and rural income. By encouraging modern beekeeping practices, the government expects an increase in honey output and related value‑added products.

The subsidy is open to all registered beekeepers in the designated hill and coastal districts of Karnataka. Applications will be accepted from the announcement date, with further details to be provided by district horticulture offices.
