HIMPESCO launches free SSB coaching for children of Himachal ex‑servicemen

HIMPESCO, the cooperative body representing retired defence personnel in Himachal Pradesh, has opened a new initiative to help the children of its members prepare for the Services Selection Board (SSB) exams. The scheme will cover the full cost of coaching, including study material, classroom sessions and mock interviews, and is aimed at improving the chances of these candidates securing entry into the Indian armed forces.

The society said the programme will be conducted at its headquarters in Shimla and will be staffed by former SSB officers and experienced trainers. Enrollment is limited to the wards of HIMPESCO members, and applications must be submitted by the end of the month.

Officials highlighted that the move aligns with the government's broader push to support the families of ex‑servicemen and to encourage youth from defence backgrounds to pursue careers in the military. No fees will be charged, and participants will receive regular performance assessments.

The initiative is expected to commence in the upcoming academic session, with the first batch of trainees slated to begin classes in early October.
