The Himachal Pradesh government has ordered all schools and colleges to remain closed on Monday, October 29, to observe the Karwa Chauth festival.
The Himachal Pradesh government announced that all schools and colleges in the state will stay closed on Monday, 29 October, coinciding with the observance of Karwa Chauth, a Hindu fasting festival.
The directive, issued jointly by the Department of School Education and the Directorate of Higher Education, is intended to give students, staff and their families the opportunity to observe the traditional ritual, during which married women fast from sunrise until the moon is sighted.
The closure applies to both government and private institutions across Himachal Pradesh, with regular classes slated to resume on Tuesday, 30 October, as per the official circular.
Authorities indicated that the holiday will not cause significant academic disruption and aligns with similar observances in other northern states.
