Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu staged a protest after a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against senior Congress figure Rahul Gandhi. Sukhu described the FIR as an attempt to intimidate the opposition and said it reflected a broader pattern of the ruling BJP stifling dissent in the state.
In a press briefing, the CM asserted that democratic space in Himachal is being eroded and urged the central leadership of the BJP to respect constitutional norms. He called for the immediate withdrawal of the FIR, labeling it politically motivated and detrimental to the state's political stability.
The FIR, filed by local authorities, has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who view it as part of a larger strategy to curb political opponents ahead of upcoming elections. No further legal action has been reported as of now.
