Heavy rain in Chhatarpur district caused water to rise up to knee level at the Gaurihar bus stand, flooding nearby shops and disrupting passenger movement.
Heavy rainfall on Thursday overwhelmed the drainage system around the Gaurihar bus stand in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. Water accumulated in the terminal area, reaching knee height and turning the waiting zone into a temporary pool.
Several roadside shops that line the bus stand were completely submerged, forcing shopkeepers to close their premises and protect their stock. Passengers waiting for buses were seen wading through the water, and some children played with inflatable tubes, swimming in the flooded space.
The sudden waterlogging disrupted regular bus services, with several vehicles delayed or rerouted until the water receded. Local authorities have been alerted to clear the blockage and improve drainage to prevent a recurrence.
No injuries were reported, but the incident highlighted the vulnerability of the town's infrastructure to intense monsoon showers.
Officials are expected to assess the damage and consider long‑term upgrades to the storm‑water management system in the area.
