The Odisha disaster management authority has issued a flood warning for areas along the Subarnarekha River as heavy rains raise water levels.

The Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) announced a flood alert on the Subarnarekha River after continuous heavy rainfall caused water levels to rise sharply. The warning, issued early this morning, covers several downstream districts where the river flows through the state.
Affected districts include Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak, where low‑lying villages and agricultural fields are at risk of inundation. Authorities have instructed local officials to monitor river gauges closely and to prepare temporary shelters for residents in vulnerable hamlets.
Residents have been advised to stay alert, avoid wading through flood‑water, and keep emergency kits ready. The OSDMA is coordinating with the Indian Meteorological Department to provide real‑time updates and has mobilised rescue teams and relief supplies in anticipation of possible evacuations.
Historically, the Subarnarekha basin has experienced seasonal flooding during the monsoon, but this year's unusually intense precipitation has prompted a higher level of alert. Officials urge the public to follow official advisories and cooperate with relief efforts to minimise damage.
