The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for the Western Ghats region of Tamil Nadu, while the state's northern districts continue to face a dry spell.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected significant rainfall over the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu over the next 48 hours, according to a DD News bulletin. Meteorologists anticipate intermittent showers turning into steady downpours, with accumulations of up to 50 millimetres in the high‑range areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris and adjacent hill zones.
In contrast, the northern districts of the state, including Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Dharmapuri, are experiencing a prolonged dry spell. The lack of precipitation has lowered groundwater levels and raised concerns among farmers who depend on rain‑fed agriculture.
Authorities have urged residents in the rain‑prone zones to stay alert, avoid low‑lying areas, and follow safety instructions from local officials. Meanwhile, the state government is monitoring the dry conditions in the north and is considering emergency water supply measures to mitigate the impact on agriculture and drinking water needs.
