The state government will oppose granting a private parallel power distribution licence for Gurgaon and Nuh, according to the Haryana Power Minister.

The Haryana government announced it will contest any move to issue a private parallel power‑distribution licence covering the districts of Gurgaon and Nuh. The decision was conveyed by the state's Power Minister during a press briefing, where he said the move conflicts with the government's policy on electricity supply.
He added that the existing distribution framework, managed by the state electricity board, is intended to ensure uniform tariffs and reliable service. Introducing a parallel private operator could create duplicate supply lines, potentially leading to billing disputes and grid instability.
The minister indicated that the state will raise the issue with the central electricity regulator and pursue legal or administrative remedies if the licence is granted without state consent. He urged the central government to respect the state's jurisdiction over regional power distribution.
Stakeholders, including consumer groups, have previously expressed concerns that private parallel licences may benefit a limited set of investors while compromising consumer interests. The Haryana administration said it will monitor the situation closely and keep the public informed of any developments.
