Travel agents report a surge in demand from Gujarati tourists for short, spiritual trips to Sikkim and Darjeeling during the Diwali season.

Travel operators across India say that Gujarati tourists are increasingly choosing the Sikkim‑Darjeeling corridor for brief, spiritually‑focused holidays, especially around the Diwali period.

The appeal lies in the region's Buddhist monasteries, tea‑garden vistas and cool mountain climate, which offer a contrast to Gujarat's arid landscape. Agents note that many travellers prefer itineraries lasting three to five days, allowing them to combine worship, nature walks and festive celebrations without taking extended leave.

In response, several tour companies have launched special Diwali packages that bundle visits to iconic sites such as the Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim and the Tiger Hill sunrise in Darjeeling, along with cultural programmes and local cuisine. These offers are marketed as “spiritual short trips” aimed at families and senior citizens seeking wellness and cultural enrichment.

Industry insiders observe a noticeable uptick in bookings compared with previous festive seasons, attributing the trend to growing interest among Gujaratis for experiential travel that blends devotion with leisure.

If the current momentum persists, the Sikkim‑Darjeeling route could become a regular fixture in Gujarati holiday planning, reinforcing the region’s reputation as a preferred destination for short, meaningful getaways.
