The central government has launched a scheme providing free LPG cylinders and has asked beneficiaries to receive a Rs 3,000 transfer by September 9.
New Delhi – The Union government rolled out a free LPG cylinder scheme aimed at easing the fuel burden on low‑income households. Under the programme, eligible families will receive a cylinder at no cost, while a one‑time cash assistance of Rs 3,000 will be transferred to their bank accounts.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has set September 9 as the cut‑off date for the cash transfer. Beneficiaries must complete the required documentation and bank verification before that deadline to receive the subsidy.
Officials said the scheme is expected to benefit millions of families across the country, reducing reliance on costly kerosene and improving cooking safety. The government will monitor disbursement through the existing Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) platform to ensure timely delivery.
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to expand LPG penetration under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and to support the economic recovery post‑pandemic.
