The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced the Kanya Sumangala Yojana, providing a total of Rs 25,000 to each girl to support her through early childhood, schooling and higher education.

The state of Uttar Pradesh has rolled out the Kanya Sumangala Yojana, a welfare scheme that earmarks a cumulative grant of Rs 25,000 for every girl citizen. The programme is designed to accompany a girl from the day of her birth until she completes her graduation, covering health, education and related expenses.

Under the scheme, the allocated amount will be disbursed in stages aligned with key milestones such as immunisation, school enrollment, and the completion of higher‑secondary and undergraduate studies. The government has stipulated that the funds be used solely for the beneficiary’s development, aiming to reduce dropout rates and improve overall female literacy.

Officials say the initiative reflects Uttar Pradesh’s broader commitment to gender equity and human‑resource development. By providing financial support at critical points in a girl’s life, the scheme seeks to empower families to invest in their daughters’ education and health, thereby contributing to the state’s socio‑economic progress.
