Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has directed a fresh investigation into a POCSO case in Goa and has suspended the overseeing crime‑branch inspector pending inquiry.
Goa's Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on Monday that a fresh probe will be launched into a recent POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case that has drawn public attention. The decision follows allegations of procedural lapses by the state's crime branch, prompting the CM to order an independent review.
In conjunction with the probe, Sawant directed the immediate suspension of the senior crime‑branch inspector who was handling the case. The inspector will remain on leave until the internal inquiry concludes, and a temporary officer has been appointed to take over the investigation.
The CM emphasized that safeguarding children is a top priority for his administration and assured that any misconduct will be dealt with strictly. He also instructed the state home department to cooperate fully with the inquiry and to provide regular updates to the public.
Law enforcement agencies have been asked to expedite the collection of evidence and to ensure that the victim receives appropriate support and protection throughout the process.
