Former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Shettar said the northern region of the state should get its own film city to boost regional cinema and related industries.
B.S. Shettar, who served as Karnataka's chief minister, urged the state government to establish a dedicated film city in North Karnataka. He argued that a purpose‑built studio complex would provide a platform for local filmmakers, create jobs and attract investment to the region.
The former minister highlighted that most existing film‑production infrastructure is concentrated around Bengaluru, leaving a gap in the northern districts where talent and stories are abundant. A regional film city, he said, could reduce logistical costs for productions and encourage the growth of a distinct North Karnataka cinematic identity.
Shettar's call comes amid broader discussions on decentralising cultural facilities across the state. While no official proposal has been tabled yet, his remarks may prompt policymakers to examine feasibility studies and potential public‑private partnerships for the project.
