A former Indian ambassador, who has represented the country in three nations, alleged that his name was missing from the Punjab electoral roll during the recent SIR exercise.

New Delhi – A former Indian diplomat, who has served as an envoy to three different countries, has raised concerns over the accuracy of Punjab's electoral roll. The diplomat claimed that his name was absent from the list compiled during the latest Special Investigation Report (SIR) exercise conducted by the state election authorities.

He highlighted that the omission could affect his eligibility to vote in upcoming elections and called for a prompt verification of the roll. The former envoy did not disclose the specific countries where he served, but emphasized his long-standing association with India's foreign service.

Election officials in Punjab have not yet commented on the allegation, and a formal request for correction is expected to be filed under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act. The matter underscores ongoing challenges in maintaining up‑to‑date voter registers across Indian states.

The incident has drawn attention from civil society groups urging greater transparency in the roll‑updating process, especially ahead of the next state assembly polls.

Authorities are expected to review the claim and, if validated, make the necessary amendments to ensure the affected individual can exercise his voting rights.
