A surprise inspection by the state food safety team uncovered hygiene and storage lapses in five leading Patna hotels, prompting orders to destroy expired items and improve standards within two weeks.
Patna, Bihar – A routine surprise inspection carried out by the state food safety department at five prominent hotels in Patna revealed serious non‑compliance with hygiene, storage and food‑safety norms. Inspectors noted that several kitchen areas lacked proper sanitation, and that temperature‑controlled storage facilities were either inadequate or not used correctly.
The team also found expired raw materials, including bread, chicken and mutton, which were immediately seized and destroyed to prevent any health risk to consumers. Samples of these items were collected for laboratory testing to confirm contamination levels.
Following the findings, hotel managements were issued a formal notice directing them to rectify all violations within 14 days. The notice mandates strict adherence to food‑handling protocols, regular staff training, and periodic internal audits to ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) guidelines.
The food safety authority has warned that failure to comply could result in heavy penalties, suspension of licences, or even closure of the establishments. The inspection underscores growing concerns over food safety standards in the hospitality sector of Bihar’s capital.
