Food Department raids Varanasi bus at Rewa bus stand over suspected sweet adulteration

Ahead of Diwali, Madhya Pradesh food officials seized large quantities of mawa, milk cake and boondi from a Varanasi‑origin bus at Rewa's Navin Bus Stand over adulteration concerns.
The Madhya Pradesh Food Safety Department conducted a surprise raid on Sunday morning at Navin Bus Stand in Rewa, targeting a Gautam Travels bus that had arrived from Varanasi. The operation was prompted by intelligence suggesting that sweets intended for Diwali celebrations might be adulterated.
Inspectors recovered substantial stocks of traditional confectionery, including mawa, milk cake, boondi and other related items. The seized goods were packed in bulk, indicating they were meant for wholesale distribution rather than individual sale.
Food officials said the seized items will be sent to a state laboratory for mandatory testing. If any adulteration is confirmed, the department will initiate legal action against the transport operator and any associated vendors, while also issuing a public advisory to consumers.
