Five trekkers are reported missing after heavy snowfall struck the Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh, prompting rescue teams to launch search operations.
Heavy snowfall blanketed the Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh on Monday, cutting off visibility and trapping a group of five trekkers on the slopes. The trekkers, who were part of a guided expedition, lost contact with their base camp as the storm intensified, prompting relatives to alert local authorities.
Rescue teams from the Himachal Pradesh Police, the State Disaster Management Force and local volunteers were dispatched early Tuesday. Using snow‑clearing equipment and high‑altitude helicopters, they began a coordinated search across the affected valleys, focusing on known trekking routes and possible shelter points.
Officials from the district administration confirmed that the weather forecast predicts continued snowfall for the next 24‑48 hours, complicating rescue efforts. They have urged the public to avoid non‑essential travel in the mountains and have appealed for any information that could help locate the missing trekkers.
The search is ongoing, and families have been asked to remain patient while authorities work under challenging conditions. No casualties have been reported so far, but the situation remains fluid as the storm persists.
