The Finance Ministry unveiled the Utkarsh reform agenda aimed at overhauling rural banking, with the Tripura Gramin Bank chairman signing up to support the drive.

New Delhi – The Ministry of Finance announced the Utkarsh reform agenda, a comprehensive plan intended to modernise and strengthen the rural banking sector across the country. The agenda outlines measures to improve credit flow to agriculture, enhance digital banking infrastructure in villages, and tighten regulatory oversight to reduce non‑performing assets.

During the launch, officials highlighted the need for a more inclusive financial system that can better serve small farmers and micro‑entrepreneurs. The programme also proposes capacity‑building initiatives for regional rural banks and incentives for private players to expand their presence in underserved areas.

Tripura Gramin Bank chairman joined the initiative, signalling the state‑level banking community’s readiness to align with the central reforms. He affirmed the bank’s commitment to adopt the new guidelines and to collaborate with the ministry in rolling out pilot projects in Tripura’s rural districts.

The ministry expects the Utkarsh agenda to boost rural credit growth by several percentage points over the next two years, thereby supporting agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods.
