Former Indian diplomat Ajay Bisaria cautioned that a volatile Donald Trump may interpret the ongoing BRICS summit as an anti‑Western gathering.

Ajay Bisaria, who served as India’s ambassador to the United States, said the rhetoric of President Donald Trump could lead him to see the BRICS leaders’ meeting as a challenge to Western interests. Bisaria highlighted Trump’s history of reacting strongly to multilateral forums that he perceives as hostile, and warned that any misreading could further strain US‑India relations. The BRICS summit, currently being held in Johannesburg, is focused on expanding cooperation among Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, without any explicit anti‑Western agenda. Bisaria’s remarks come as Washington monitors the summit’s outcomes, particularly on trade and geopolitical alignment. He urged the Indian government to communicate clearly with the United States to avoid misunderstandings that could affect bilateral ties.
