A look back at the eight performers who have brought the demon king Ravana to life on screen before Yash’s forthcoming portrayal in the new Ramayana series.
The entertainment world is gearing up for Yash’s much‑anticipated debut as Ravana in the upcoming television adaptation of the Ramayana. While fans await his interpretation, it is worth recalling the eight actors who have previously embodied the iconic demon king on screen.
These eight portrayals span several decades and include veterans from Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema, each bringing a distinct flavor to the mythic antagonist. From the grandiose sets of the 1970s to the digitally enhanced productions of the 2010s, the actors navigated the complex blend of menace and charisma that defines Ravana.
The earlier performances have set a benchmark for visual storytelling, influencing costume design, makeup, and the narrative tone of subsequent retellings. As Yash prepares to join this lineage, industry observers note that each new rendition reshapes public perception of the legendary figure, keeping the epic relevant for contemporary audiences.
With the series slated for release later this year, the comparison with past portrayals will likely become a talking point among critics and viewers alike, adding another layer of anticipation to Yash’s entry into the pantheon of Ravana actors.
