An Eicher truck carrying fish fell into the Rupen River close to Gir Gadhada, resulting in one fatality and two people in critical condition.
A heavy Eicher truck loaded with fish plunged into the Rupen River near the town of Gir Gadhada in Gujarat, authorities said. The vehicle is believed to have slipped off a low bridge or embankment and dropped roughly 15 feet into the water, trapping the driver and two assistants inside.
Rescue teams from the local police and fire services reached the scene within minutes and used rope ladders and inflatable boats to extract the occupants. One of the three crew members was pronounced dead at the riverbank, while the remaining two were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a sudden loss of traction on a wet road may have caused the truck to veer off course. The incident has prompted a temporary closure of the river crossing until safety checks are completed.
The accident underscores the risks faced by transporters moving perishable goods through rural Gujarat, where narrow bridges and unpredictable weather can create hazardous conditions.
