The Enforcement Directorate has attached Jauhar University, valued at Rs 1,170 crore and owned by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, under a money‑laundering probe in Uttar Pradesh.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken control of Jauhar University in Uttar Pradesh, a private institution worth approximately Rs 1,170 crore. The university is owned by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, who has been under investigation for alleged money‑laundering activities.

The attachment was executed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), allowing the ED to freeze assets believed to be proceeds of crime. Officials said the move aims to prevent further dissipation of funds while the investigation proceeds.

No arrest was reported at the time of the attachment, and the university's academic operations are expected to continue under court‑ordered supervision. The ED has not disclosed additional details pending further inquiry.

Azam Khan, a former minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, has previously faced scrutiny over financial irregularities. This latest action adds to the series of legal challenges confronting the politician.

The case underscores the central government's focus on curbing illicit financial flows in the education sector, especially where political figures are involved.
