A senior DMK leader criticised the state’s deteriorating law‑and‑order situation, calling it the worst since independence, and blamed actor Vijay for recent unrest.
A senior leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) publicly warned that Tamil Nadu’s law‑and‑order situation has slipped to its lowest level since the country gained independence. The remarks were made during a press interaction where the leader highlighted a series of recent incidents that have heightened public anxiety.
The leader specifically pointed to comments made by popular Tamil film star Vijay, suggesting that the actor’s statements have aggravated tensions in the state. While no direct link between the actor’s remarks and the law‑and‑order decline was established, the political figure used the opportunity to call for stricter enforcement and faster resolution of pending cases.
Law‑enforcement officials, however, declined to comment on the political criticism, stating that they are focused on maintaining public safety and addressing the underlying causes of the unrest. The DMK leader urged the state government to take immediate corrective measures to restore confidence among citizens.
The statement comes at a time when opposition parties across the country are scrutinising the performance of state administrations on public safety, with Tamil Nadu being a focal point due to its large population and economic significance.
