On Monday morning, the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain held a Bhavsm Aarti during which Baba Mahakal was presented with a silver crown, a mundmala and bhang after a Panchamrit abhishek, attracting a large gathering of devotees.

The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain opened its sanctum on Monday morning for the traditional Bhavsm Aarti, a ritual that marks the transition of the deity’s form from night to day. The ceremony began with a Panchamrit abhishek, wherein the idol of Baba Mahakal was bathed in a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar.

Following the abhishek, priests placed a silver crown and a string of fresh mundmala on the deity, symbols of reverence and purity. In addition, bhang—a preparation made from cannabis leaves—was offered along with dry fruits, adhering to age‑old customs observed during this particular aarti.

The ritual drew a sizable crowd of devotees who lined the temple courtyard, chanting and cheering as the offerings were presented. Many arrived early to secure a view of the divine form, which devotees described as radiant and auspicious.

Temple officials noted that the event proceeded without any disruptions and that security measures were in place to manage the influx of worshippers. The Mahakaleshwar Temple continues to be a focal point of spiritual activity in Madhya Pradesh, especially during such ceremonial observances.
