Devadurga Journalists’ Bhavan Allegedly Turns Into a Hub for Illegal Liquor Sale
Public Outrage Over Alleged Illegal Liquor Trade

NEED 24 NEWS

Devadurga, Oct. 3: The fourth estate of democracy is expected to highlight social issues, correct irregularities and serve as the voice of the common people. However, allegations that illegal activities are taking place around the journalists’ office in Devadurga have caused concern and anger among local residents.

Alleged Illegal Liquor Sale in Front of Journalists’ Bhavan

An old building of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Hostel, located beside the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Devadurga taluk, has reportedly become dilapidated. Next to it is a well-maintained two-room building that is currently being used as the Journalists’ Bhavan (journalists’ office).

According to local residents, liquor is allegedly being sold illegally in front of and around the premises of the Journalists’ Bhavan without any apparent fear of authorities. Residents claim that groups of people consuming alcohol gather around the premises during the day, while the alleged illegal activities increase in the evening.

The Journalists’ Bhavan is a place where press conferences and discussions on social issues are expected to take place. Residents have expressed concern that alleged illegal liquor sales in such a sensitive public area are creating an unsafe environment. They claim that the presence of intoxicated individuals has made people, particularly pedestrians and local residents, uncomfortable while passing through the area.

Public Question: Who Will Address the Issues Around the Journalists’ Bhavan?

Journalists regularly report injustices and illegal activities occurring in society and bring them to the attention of the authorities. Against this backdrop, local residents have questioned why the alleged activities taking place near the journalists’ office have not been effectively addressed.

Residents have raised the question: “If journalists work to correct irregularities in society, who will address the problems occurring around their own office?”

Public Questions the Role of Police and Excise Authorities

Residents have also questioned the response of the police and Excise Department. They allege that illegal liquor sales are taking place openly in a public area and near a government building, yet effective action has not been visible.

Some residents have expressed suspicion about whether local-level protection or regular payments are enabling such activities. However, these are allegations raised by the public and have not been independently established.

Residents have strongly urged the authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action if any illegal activity is found.

They have appealed to the taluk administration, police department and Excise Department to immediately inspect the premises, stop any illegal liquor sales, take legal action against those responsible and ensure a safe environment for the public.
