Candidates contesting the Delhi University student union polls this year will no longer have to deposit a Rs 1 lakh security bond, as the university has removed the requirement.
The administration of Delhi University has announced that the mandatory security deposit of one lakh rupees for candidates in the upcoming student union elections has been eliminated. This decision removes a financial hurdle that previously deterred many aspirants from contesting.
Officials said the move is intended to broaden participation and make the electoral process more inclusive for the university's diverse student body. By waiving the bond, the university hopes to encourage a larger pool of candidates representing varied interests.
The elections, set to be conducted across the university's colleges, will employ electronic voting machines (EVMs) to ensure a transparent and efficient voting process. Preparations are underway to install the machines and train volunteers.
Student representatives have welcomed the change, noting that it levels the playing field and aligns with the institution's commitment to democratic student governance. The university will release detailed guidelines and timelines in the coming weeks.
