Punjab Assembly Speaker alleges that Delhi police officers entered a gurdwara in Delhi without headgear and while wearing shoes, sparking criticism over protocol breach.

Punjab Assembly Speaker Bhagwant Mann publicly claimed that a contingent of Delhi police entered a gurdwara in the national capital without covering their heads and while wearing shoes, a move that contravenes traditional Sikh religious etiquette. The allegation was made during a press briefing, where the speaker highlighted the incident as a sign of disrespect towards the sanctity of the place of worship.

According to Sikh customs, visitors are expected to remove their shoes and keep their heads covered before stepping inside a gurdwara. The speaker said that the police presence, which was part of a routine law‑and‑order operation, ignored these norms, leading to disquiet among the congregation present at the time.

Delhi Police officials have not yet issued an official statement on the matter. Sources indicate that an internal review may be underway to ascertain whether procedural guidelines were breached and to address any grievances raised by the Sikh community. The incident has reignited a broader debate on the need for law‑enforcement agencies to observe religious protocols while conducting duties in sensitive locations.
