The capital’s Graded Response Action Plan Phase II was activated immediately after the Air Quality Index entered the ‘very poor’ bracket, triggering strict emission controls.

Delhi's pollution monitoring agency announced the immediate activation of the Graded Response Action Plan Phase II after the city's Air Quality Index entered the 'very poor' category. The move comes as particulate matter levels surged, prompting authorities to tighten controls.

Under GRAP Phase II, construction and demolition work have been halted, diesel‑powered generators are prohibited unless essential, and private vehicles older than ten years face a ban from operating in the city. Additional measures include restrictions on firecrackers, waste burning, and the use of high‑emission machinery.

Officials said the restrictions aim to bring the AQI down to safer levels within a few days. Citizens have been advised to limit outdoor activities, wear N‑95 masks when outside, and rely on public transport or car‑pooling to reduce traffic emissions.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee will monitor air quality continuously and may extend or modify the measures based on real‑time data.
