The Delhi government has activated the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP‑1) to curb air pollution, while also announcing a two‑fold increase in on‑street parking charges.
The Delhi administration has put into effect the Graded Response Action Plan at its first level, GRAP‑1, as a response to deteriorating air quality in the capital. Under this scheme, authorities will enforce stricter controls on activities that contribute to particulate matter and other pollutants.
In parallel, the municipal corporation announced that on‑street parking fees across the city will be doubled. The move is intended to discourage private vehicle use and ease traffic congestion, which is a known factor in the city’s pollution problem.
Officials said the combined approach of emission curbs and higher parking costs aims to bring the air quality index within safe limits. Monitoring stations will continue to report real‑time data, and the government has warned that further restrictions could follow if pollution levels do not improve.
