Meteorologists warn that a new cyclonic system is moving towards Andhra Pradesh, with landfall projected for Monday.

A fresh cyclonic disturbance has been tracked in the Bay of Bengal and is now heading straight for the eastern coast of Andhra Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded the system to a cyclonic storm and forecasts that it will make landfall on Monday, bringing heavy rains and strong winds.

Officials in the state have issued advisories urging residents in low‑lying coastal districts to remain vigilant. The IMD has warned of the possibility of storm surges up to three metres along vulnerable stretches of the shoreline, and has asked fishermen to stay ashore until conditions improve.

The Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority has activated emergency response teams and pre‑positioned relief supplies in anticipation of the storm. Authorities have also ordered the closure of schools and non‑essential government offices in the most at‑risk areas, and have urged the public to stock essential items and avoid unnecessary travel.

Residents are being instructed to follow updates from official channels, secure loose objects, and move to higher ground if evacuation orders are issued. The situation will be closely monitored as the system approaches the coast.
