The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has charged the Tripura administration with mismanagement of the state power utility, highlighting a reported financial shortfall of about Rs 17,000 crore.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) publicly accused the Tripura state government of mishandling the affairs of the Tripura State Electricity Board (TSECL). The party’s statement singled out what it described as a massive financial discrepancy within the utility.

According to CPI(M), the accounts of TSECL reveal a shortfall of roughly Rs 17,000 crore, a figure the party says points to systemic mismanagement and lack of transparency. The gap, if accurate, would represent one of the largest fiscal imbalances in a state-owned power company in recent years.

CPI(M) called for an immediate audit of TSECL’s books and urged the government to take corrective action to safeguard consumer interests and the state’s finances. The party warned that continued negligence could jeopardise power supply reliability across Tripura.

The allegation adds pressure on the Tripura administration ahead of upcoming budget discussions, as officials are expected to address concerns over the utility’s financial health.
