The Indian National Congress began its South Goa rally, with senior leader Alemao highlighting a growing employment shortage in the coastal town of Shiroda.

South Goa district witnessed the arrival of the Congress party's scheduled yatra on Monday, marking the start of a series of rallies aimed at consolidating support ahead of the upcoming state elections. Party workers gathered along the main highway, unfurling tricolour flags and distributing pamphlets that outline the Congress' development agenda for the region.

During the opening address, senior Congress figure Alemao drew attention to the acute job shortage affecting Shiroda, a fishing and tourism hub in the district. He urged the state government to implement skill‑training programmes and attract investment to create sustainable employment for the local youth.

Local residents, many of whom rely on seasonal tourism, listened as the party promised infrastructure upgrades and better access to credit for small businesses. The rally concluded with a march toward the municipal office, where party volunteers pledged to monitor the implementation of promised schemes.

Analysts note that the yatra's focus on employment aligns with broader voter concerns across Goa, and the Congress hopes the South Goa outreach will translate into electoral gains in the coastal constituencies.
