The recent Bikaner municipal corporation election marked a decisive comeback for the Congress party after a ten‑year hiatus. Out of the 79 wards contested, Congress secured 42, giving it an outright majority in the city’s local governing body.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finished second with 25 ward victories, a significant reduction from its previous standing in the corporation. Eleven independent candidates and one candidate from the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) also won seats, rounding out the council composition.
Analysts note that the result reflects a shift in voter sentiment in Rajasthan’s northern district, where local issues and party organization played a crucial role. The newly formed council is expected to convene soon to elect a mayor and outline its agenda for the coming term.
