The Rajasthan Congress has put forward Nirmal Raiyan, who lost his own ward in the Jaisalmer Nagar Parishad elections, as its candidate for the council’s chairmanship under the hybrid election system.
The Rajasthan unit of the Indian National Congress announced that Nirmal Raiyan will contest the chairmanship of the Jaisalmer Nagar Parishad under the newly introduced hybrid electoral system. The hybrid model combines direct ward votes with an indirect selection process for the council’s top post, allowing parties to nominate candidates who may not have won their individual wards.
Raiyan, a Congress party worker, was defeated in his own ward during the recent municipal council elections. Despite that loss, the party chose to field him for the chairmanship, citing his experience and loyalty to the party as reasons for the nomination.
Party officials indicated that the decision aims to leverage the hybrid mechanism to secure a leadership position for Congress in Jaisalmer, even as the party works to rebuild its grassroots support after the ward-level setbacks.
