The opposition INDIA alliance plans a large-scale rally in Delhi on October 12, while detained SFI activists are set to begin a hunger strike.
The opposition INDIA alliance, spearheaded by the Congress party, has scheduled a mass protest in Delhi for October 12. Organisers say the rally will bring together parties and civil society groups under the banner of the INDIA bloc, aiming to voice dissent against the central government's policies.
The demonstration is expected to converge at prominent locations such as Rajpath and Jantar Mantar, with organisers estimating a turnout of several thousand participants. The bloc plans to highlight issues ranging from unemployment and price rises to alleged erosion of democratic institutions.
Simultaneously, activists of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) who are currently detained have announced a fast-unto-death to protest their incarceration. Their hunger strike is slated to begin on the same day, adding a parallel dimension of student‑rights activism to the broader protest.
Security agencies have deployed additional forces in the capital ahead of the event, and officials have urged demonstrators to adhere to law and order. The government has not yet issued a formal response to the planned rally or the SFI fast.
