Complete Genealogy of Tonk’s Nine Nawabs Compiled After 125 Years

For the first time, the full lineage of the nine Nawabs of Tonk has been gathered in a single document, expanding on the limited details from the 1901 Urdu work 'Hadika-e-Rajasthan Tonk'.
Researchers and members of the Tonk royal family have assembled a comprehensive shijra that records the descent of all nine Nawabs who ruled the erstwhile Tonk princely state. The new compilation brings together scattered records, family archives and oral histories into a single, coherent document.
The only earlier reference to the Tonk lineage appeared in the 1901 Urdu publication 'Hadika-e-Rajasthan Tonk', which listed merely four Nawab families and offered scant genealogical detail. By contrast, the present work traces each successive ruler, their spouses, offspring and key marital alliances, filling a gap that has persisted for more than a century.
Historians say the consolidated genealogy will aid scholars studying Rajasthan’s feudal past and provide descendants with a clearer sense of their heritage. The document is expected to be made available to libraries and cultural institutions in Jaipur and Tonk for further research.
The effort underscores a growing interest in preserving regional aristocratic histories, many of which remain undocumented or fragmented. As the shijra circulates, it may also inform future exhibitions on the cultural legacy of the Tonk Nawabs.
