A RKTC haiva operating at SECL’s Amlaai OCM mine in Shahdol burst into flames, destroying the vehicle while the driver survived by jumping out.
A heavy haiva belonging to RKTC, a contractor for South Eastern Coal Limited (SECL), caught fire while working at the Amlaai OCM coal mine in the Dhanpuri police area of Shahdol district, Madhya Pradesh. The blaze engulfed the vehicle within minutes, reducing it to ash.
The driver, noticing the flames, leapt from the truck and escaped serious injury. Emergency response teams arrived promptly, but the haiva was already destroyed.
The incident has raised immediate concerns about the fitness and safety standards of heavy mining vehicles operating in the region. Industry observers and local authorities are likely to review compliance with safety protocols following the fire.
SECL and RKTC have not released an official statement yet, but the event underscores the need for stricter monitoring of equipment used in underground and open‑cast mining operations.
