The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a severe cyclonic storm alert for Murasu, prompting authorities to declare holidays for schools across Chennai.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) raised a warning for Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu as the system moved towards the southeastern coast of India. Meteorologists noted that the storm could bring strong winds, heavy rainfall and possible flooding in coastal districts.
State officials in Tamil Nadu responded by announcing a city‑wide school holiday for Chennai, advising parents to keep children at home until conditions improve.
The education department also instructed private schools to follow the same directive and urged commuters to avoid non‑essential travel.
Authorities continue to monitor the storm’s trajectory and have deployed disaster‑response teams to assist with evacuation and relief measures if needed.
