Heavy, out‑of‑season rain in Muzaffarpur district raised the Bagmati River’s level, destroying the Chachri bridge and stopping traffic on the Pipa bridge, while paddy fields suffered water damage.

Heavy rains that began early on Monday fell across Muzaffarpur district, causing the Bagmati River to rise well above its normal level. Meteorological data indicated that the precipitation was far beyond the seasonal average, prompting local authorities to issue flood warnings.

The surge overwhelmed the Chachri bridge at Madhuban Pratap, where the structure gave way and was completely washed away. Nearby, the Pipa bridge at Bakuchee remained intact but the fast‑moving water made the approach roads impassable, halting all vehicular movement.

Farmers in the Orai‑Katara area reported that standing water inundated low‑lying paddy fields, threatening the upcoming harvest. Preliminary estimates suggest that several acres of standing rice crops have been damaged.

District officials have deployed rescue teams and are coordinating with the Public Works Department to assess the bridge damage and restore connectivity as soon as possible.
