CERN Director‑General Mark Thomson urged the scientific community to pursue additional mega‑science initiatives, emphasizing the Future Circular Collider as a key project that could expand the frontiers of physics, technology, and imagination.

CERN’s Director‑General Mark Thomson made a statement at the organization’s annual meeting, calling for a new wave of mega‑science projects to keep pushing the limits of human knowledge.

Thomson highlighted the Future Circular Collider (FCC) – a proposed 100‑kilometre ring that would replace the Large Hadron Collider – as the flagship initiative that could unlock new physics beyond the Standard Model.

He argued that such large‑scale endeavors are essential for sustaining scientific progress, fostering international collaboration, and driving technological innovation that spills over into other sectors.

The FCC, if built, would provide unprecedented energy levels for particle collisions, offering scientists a deeper understanding of the universe’s fundamental forces and potentially leading to breakthroughs in materials science, computing, and energy storage.
