The Union government has approved a ₹1,176 crore project to build a six‑lane bridge over the Teesta River at Sevoke, West Bengal, aiming to improve connectivity between the Dooars and the western districts.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced the approval of a ₹1,176 crore project to construct a six‑lane bridge over the Teesta River at Sevoke in West Bengal.
The bridge, spanning approximately 1,200 metres, will connect the Dooars region with the western districts of West Bengal, replacing the current narrow and congested ferry crossing.
Officials say the new structure will reduce travel time by up to 30 per cent, boost trade, and support tourism in the scenic Himalayan foothills.
A detailed project report has been submitted to the Ministry, and the next phase will involve inviting tenders for construction, with an expected completion date of 2027.
