The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a senior figure suspected of coordinating a cross‑border human trafficking syndicate linked to Myanmar and Cambodia.
New Delhi – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced today that it has taken into custody a senior operative believed to be a linchpin of a human‑trafficking network with connections in Myanmar and Cambodia. The agency said the arrest was the result of a months‑long probe that traced the suspect’s role in recruiting and moving victims across borders.
The detained individual is alleged to have facilitated the illegal movement of men, women and children from South‑East Asia into India, exploiting vulnerable migrants for forced labour and sexual exploitation. Investigators highlighted the transnational nature of the ring, noting that it operated through a series of front companies and informal channels in both Myanmar and Cambodia.
CBI officials indicated that the operation remains active and that further arrests are expected as the investigation expands. The bureau has also coordinated with law‑enforcement agencies in the two neighbouring countries to dismantle the broader network and secure the safety of potential victims.
Legal proceedings are underway, and the suspect will appear before a special court to face charges under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act. Authorities emphasized that the case underscores the need for stronger cross‑border cooperation to combat human trafficking.
