The Central Bureau of Investigation has opened an inquiry into alleged foreign money received by an activist from Arunachal Pradesh, according to reports.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case to examine possible receipt of foreign contributions by an activist based in Arunachal Pradesh. Officials said the probe will focus on bank transactions, foreign remittances and compliance with the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010.

The agency has not disclosed the identity of the activist or the source of the alleged funds, citing investigative confidentiality. Preliminary inquiries will involve scrutinising financial records and coordinating with the Enforcement Directorate, if money laundering concerns arise.

Authorities indicated that the investigation is part of a broader effort to ensure that foreign funding does not influence domestic activism without proper authorization. No arrests have been made so far, and the CBI has asked relevant banks to preserve transaction data for further analysis.

The move comes amid heightened scrutiny of foreign contributions to civil society groups across the country, with the government urging stricter compliance and transparency.

Further updates will be provided as the CBI progresses with its investigation.
