The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast indicating that a new cyclonic system may move towards the coast of Andhra Pradesh in the coming days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a weather bulletin on Monday warning that a fresh cyclonic disturbance is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal and could track towards the Andhra Pradesh coastline within the next 48 to 72 hours. Meteorologists noted that sea‑surface temperatures remain conducive for cyclogenesis and that the system may intensify as it moves westward.
IMD has placed the state under a ‘Cyclone Watch’ and advised coastal districts to stay alert, activate early‑warning mechanisms, and prepare evacuation plans for vulnerable communities. The department also urged fishermen to refrain from venturing out and to secure their vessels.
Authorities in Andhra Pradesh are coordinating with the National Disaster Management Authority to ensure that shelters are ready and relief supplies are pre‑positioned. Residents are being asked to monitor official updates and follow instructions from local officials to minimise potential damage and loss of life.
