BWSSB launches AI-powered smart water meters in Bengaluru under PPP model
Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board has introduced AI-based smart water meters to curb water wastage and improve precision in supply management.
BWSSB announced the rollout of AI-driven smart water meters across Bengaluru, marking a first-of-its-kind public-private partnership (PPP) initiative aimed at reducing water consumption and enhancing meter accuracy.
The meters, equipped with advanced artificial-intelligence algorithms, will monitor real-time usage, detect leaks, and transmit data to a central system, enabling the board to address irregularities promptly.
The PPP model involves collaboration with a private technology firm that supplies the hardware and analytics platform, while BWSSB handles installation and integration with its existing distribution network.
Officials said the deployment is expected to curb water loss, improve billing accuracy, and provide consumers with detailed consumption insights, supporting the city's broader water-conservation goals.
The project will be phased, starting with high-consumption zones, and will be expanded city-wide over the coming months.
