BJP holds secret poll among Jaipur councillors to pick mayoral candidates

Despite a clear BJP majority in Jaipur Municipal Corporation, the party is still debating its mayoral candidate. On Friday, councillors were asked to submit a secret ballot listing three preferred names.
The Jaipur Municipal Corporation is currently under the control of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which enjoys a decisive majority of seats. Nevertheless, the selection of the city's mayor remains unsettled within the party.
On Friday, BJP officials circulated a confidential questionnaire to all JMC councillors, requesting each to name three individuals they consider suitable for the mayoral post. The responses are to be submitted anonymously, and the party will compile the preferences to form a shortlist.
Party spokespeople said the exercise is intended to capture the views of elected representatives and to minimise internal factionalism. After the poll results are analysed, the leadership will decide on a final candidate to be presented for the municipal council's mayoral election.
No names have been disclosed publicly, and the party has indicated that the chosen candidate will be announced once the internal process is complete.
