Bid to Release Kodihalli Chandrashekar and Review Old Farmer Protest Cases
Bidar: The Karnataka State Farmers Association and Hasiru Sene have demanded the immediate release of Kodihalli Chandrashekar, State President, who is currently detained in an old case related to the 2013 Mahadayi water agitation. They have also urged the government to review and withdraw old cases filed against farmer protestors in connection with various movements.
The association officials submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah through the District Commissioner, highlighting that Karnataka farmers have been peacefully and democratically fighting for water, agriculture, fair crop prices, and farmer rights for many years. The detention of Kodihalli Chandrashekar related to the 2013 protest at Hubballi railway station has caused concern among the farming community. The memorandum stresses that these cases should not be treated merely as legal issues but viewed in the context of the farmers' rights movements and called for appropriate legal and administrative action to withdraw cases within state and central government jurisdiction.
The memorandum also urged the government to resolve farmer rights and agriculture-related issues through dialogue and peaceful democratic protests. Present at the event were district and state level office bearers of the Karnataka State Farmers Association and Hasiru Sene, including District President Srimant Biradar, Honorary President Sidramappa Anadure, District General Secretary Dayanand Swami Sirsi, State General Secretary of the Women’s Unit Shobha Vari Karabhari, State Representative Shesharao Kanji, State Vice President Chandrashekar Jamakhandi, Women’s Unit District President Mahananda Deshmukh, district vice presidents Siddanna Bhushetti and Shankareppa Para, and several taluk-level office bearers and farmer leaders.
